Any adult in England can now add to their PKB record a copy of the data the GP has released to the patient. We are proud to have done this across all of England’s GP surgeries. The integration gives patients more control over their health information and better sharing between healthcare providers. Better sharing improves care co-ordination, reduces the risk of medical errors, and ultimately leads to better health outcomes for patients.
For university hospitals in London, 50% of patients are from outside of London and London doctors cannot access the non-London GP record. In other regions, hospital doctors cannot see the GP record for 25-30% of their patients as they travel in from other regions. A patient with their GP record in PKB is a patient who can show the GP data to their hospital doctor.
Phased Implementation of GP Data Integration
Our rollout of the GP data integration has two phases to ensure a smooth and efficient transition:
Phase 1: Q1 2025
Core GP Data available in the PKB user interface (UI)
In this initial phase, patients can view the following information from their GP practices:
- Demographics: Personal details such as name, date of birth, and contact information.
- Appointments: Upcoming and past GP appointments.
- Medications: A record of medications a patient is taking or has taken.
- Diagnoses (Conditions): Recorded medical conditions and diagnoses.
PKB goes beyond the NHS App by enriching GP data with SNOMED CT codes. SNOMED CT is an internationally recognised clinical terminology and it is used by the NHS. This helps organise the data better, improves retrieval, and allows for smoother data sharing and analysis between different healthcare providers and systems.
Comprehensive GP data available via the PKB FHIR API
PKB stores additional GP data, not yet data visible to the patient. When a patient shares their record, this data will be accessible in medical records systems via our FHIR APIs:
- Observations: Clinical notes, measurements, and test results.
- Allergies & Immunisations: Allergy and vaccination records.
Phase 2: Late 2025
All GP data available via the PKB UI and FHIR API
In the second phase, we will store more GP data such as documents from GP systems. We will also make all data visible to the patient.
How to store your GP record in PKB
To access your GP data within PKB:
Log into PKB using your NHS login.

Click ‘Get my GP data’.

New ‘Get my GP data’ screen for Patients
That’s it. After this, PKB will automatically update the patient’s GP data each time they log in, however they log in.
We believe that by empowering patients with their GP data, we can foster more informed health decisions and improved healthcare outcomes.
