Patients Know Best are excited to be starting work with the Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and Type 2 teams in the Genetic Medicine Department of St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester (part of the Central Manchester University Hospitals Foundation Trust). Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and 2 are rare neurological conditions where nerve tissue grows tumors that can cause damage through compression and abnormal function in tissues throughout the body.
Due to the complexity of the condition, some of the patients at St Mary’s are under the care of as many as nine different services for complications associated with their disorder. Digital Personal Health records for these patients provided through Patients Know Best will enable the NF1 and NF2 teams to provide on-going support and advice remotely to their patients, as well as to carers and other clinicians in the circle of care around the patient, wherever they may reside.
