The diabetes team at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals investigated the extent PKB added value to care and promotion of self-management for 121 Type 1 diabetes patients. In addition to basic functions in PKB such as secure messaging and direct access to test results, patients also used features such as Skype consultations, storing and sharing measurements and linking trackers and wearable devices.
After six months, the study found that overall PKB was popular with Type 1 diabetes patients and has the potential to enhance their relationship with the healthcare team.
