One of our latest Mental Health customers embarking on their digital mission to improve delivery of Mental Health services is Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. As our third feature blog in Mental Health Awareness week we look to inform others of their vision for their programme of work.
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT) provides mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages across Sussex, and children and young people in Hampshire. Many of these services are provided in partnership to give the best offer of support to the communities they serve. The Trust are currently going live with PKB, known in Sussex as ‘My Health and Care Record’ (MHCR) for their adult services.
The Trust is keen to utilise as much functionality of MHCR as they can to provide the service user with a useful personal health record. Primarily they want to use MHCR to share their care plans, the first one being Patient Notes: A Daily Journal, which are created and produced in their local system, but will be sent to MHCR for patients to have access to at any time and anywhere they need it. This will enable patients to easily reference their mental health safety planning, and to be able to share this digitally with family and carers.

Service users can utilise the journal section of MHCR to help track their daily thoughts and feelings including self care, food and drink and how their medication is working. This will allow a much more enriched and informative record. Along with this they will be providing a library of useful resources available for the service user. The Trust is integrating some of its systems with MHCR to send appointment letters and appointments directly into the patient’s record and they will also start to use questionnaires.
Alongside the huge benefits of patient data flowing into MHCR and the added functionality within the system, the Trust wants to enhance their current digitised Subject Access Request process to enable those patients who request information, and who have a MHCR record, to send it straight into the record, reducing time in administering the current process.
If you are a service user across SPFT you will shortly be invited to claim your record. If you are care for by other services across Sussex, you may already have a PKB record, you can claim this and link your My Health and Care Record via the NHS App now! Find out more here.
Find out more in our blog tomorrow about how our customer, City and Hackney CCG, via collaborative working with their service users are supporting these users with their mental health awareness and management through the establishment of The Digital Recovery Platform for Severe Mental Illness. This programme of work recently awarded them the accolade ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Digitising Patient Services Initiative’ category for the HSJ Awards 2020.
